The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully neutralized five key terrorist commanders and 35 fighters during a series of airstrikes in Arina, Southern Tumbuns, Borno State. This significant operation was confirmed in a statement released yesterday by NAF spokesman, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Edward Gabkwet.

The terrorist commanders identified in the operation were Munzir Arika, Sani Dilla (Dan Hausawan Jubillaram), Ameer Modu, Dan Fulani Fari Fari, and Bakoura Arina Chiki. The air interdiction mission, which took place on August 16, was part of a coordinated effort to dismantle terrorist activities in the region.

AVM Gabkwet explained that the operation was initiated following intelligence reports indicating a covert movement of terrorists into the area from nearby locations. Further reconnaissance missions conducted on August 12 and 15 confirmed the presence of a large number of terrorists and their concealed structures.

"Consequently, coordinated airstrikes were launched over the location, and the targets successfully engaged, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of their structures," AVM Gabkwet stated. The operation also led to the obliteration of various equipment, vehicles, water vessels, and a suspected medical dispensary used by the terrorists.

The successful strikes have significantly weakened the operational capabilities of the remaining terrorists in the region, contributing to ongoing efforts by the Armed Forces and other security agencies to restore peace and security in Borno State.

The NAF reiterated its commitment to supporting national security efforts and ensuring that the region remains safe from terrorist threats.
