The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully neutralized 28 terrorists in a series of airstrikes in the Bassa community of Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State. The airstrikes, conducted on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, were part of a coordinated effort to support ground forces engaged in a firefight with over 100 terrorists.

In a statement released on Thursday, September 12, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, Group Captain Kabiru Ali, confirmed the operation's success. Ali explained that the NAF responded to a request for air support, swiftly deploying assets to the area. Upon arrival, air assets observed terrorists engaging friendly forces in a fierce battle.

“After confirming the positions of friendly troops, the NAF conducted precision airstrikes on the terrorists’ positions," Ali stated. "The strikes were devastating, neutralizing dozens of terrorists in successive passes. So far, 28 bodies have been recovered from the target area, with more terrorists, weapons, and motorcycles still being cleared."

This successful operation highlights the NAF's commitment to safeguarding the nation and collaborating with other security agencies in the fight against banditry, terrorism, and insurgency. Group Captain Ali assured that the NAF would continue to conduct air operations, both independently and in support of ground forces, to eliminate all threats to Nigeria’s peace and security.
