In a major tactical victory for Nigeria’s counterterrorism campaign, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), through its Operation Hadin Kai, has killed scores of Boko Haram terrorists and decimated one of their key strongholds in Bita, Borno State.
The precision airstrikes, conducted under the cover of darkness in the early hours of Friday, targeted fleeing insurgents and dealt what the military describes as “one of the most decisive blows” against the extremist group in recent times.
According to a statement by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, the mission represents a significant escalation in the ongoing military effort to dismantle Boko Haram’s operational capacity in Nigeria’s North-East.
“In the early hours of today, NAF combat aircraft carried out precision airstrikes on fleeing terrorists in Bita, Borno State, neutralising scores of insurgents,” the statement read.
“The highly coordinated operation, executed under the cover of darkness, represents a major leap in ongoing efforts to dismantle the operational capabilities of terrorist elements undermining national security in the North East.”
Following the air assault, ground forces moved in swiftly to begin clearance and exploitation operations, aimed at consolidating the gains of the air raids and rooting out any surviving militants in the area.
Bita, long considered a notorious Boko Haram enclave, has served as a staging ground for several attacks in recent months, making its successful bombardment a significant milestone for Nigeria’s security forces.
The NAF assured citizens of its unwavering commitment to national security and reiterated that no terrorist group would be allowed to find safe haven anywhere within the country.
This latest offensive underscores the renewed momentum in the military’s efforts to dismantle insurgent networks and restore peace across the region—especially as Nigeria continues to grapple with widespread insecurity on multiple fronts.
