“The mother of the baby has been identified and arrested. The Commissioner of Police has ordered the transfer of the case to SCID Lafia for detailed investigation and prosecution,” Nansel stated.

Similar cases have been recorded in other states. In July, a farmer in Kamba town, Dandi LGA, Kebbi State, rescued a newborn baby girl buried alive on his farmland. The child, discovered wrapped in cloth and crying, was later placed in his custody by the local council. The farmer, Kabiru Kamba, and his wife—who had recently given birth—took in the baby and organised a naming ceremony for her.
The growing trend of child abandonment across Nigeria has continued to spark concern among stakeholders, with calls for urgent action to address underlying social and economic pressures.
