Nasarawa State Police Arrest University Student for Alleged Rape of Freshman

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested Gabriel David, a 400-level student at the State University, Keffi, for allegedly raping a 100-level student of the same institution. DSP Ramhan Nansel, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest while speaking with our correspondent in Lafia on Saturday.

According to Nansel, the suspect was apprehended by police operatives attached to the Agwan Lambu Division near the university in the Keffi Local Government Area. The incident reportedly occurred on May 9, 2024.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect traveled to the village where he and the victim come from. The victim’s parents gave the suspect some foodstuff to deliver to the victim since they are both students at the same university," Nansel stated.

"When he brought the food items, he called the victim to come over to his residence to collect the foodstuff sent by her parents. Upon her arrival, he lured the victim into his room and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her."

Nansel further explained that the suspect, upon arrest, was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia, where he confessed to the crime.

"He will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation into the matter," Nansel added.
