The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking networks across Nigeria, making several high-profile arrests and seizing substantial quantities of illegal substances. Among those detained was businessman Ibeanusi Nosike, who excreted 68 wraps of cocaine after his arrest at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. Nosike, based in Onitsha, Anambra State, attempted to board a flight bound for Vietnam on August 8 but was intercepted following intelligence reports.
In a related case, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed that another businessman, Paul Mbadugha, was apprehended at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja after ingesting 88 wraps of cocaine, weighing 1.710 kilograms.
The NDLEA’s operations also extended to other parts of Nigeria. An all-female trafficking syndicate, led by Olaribigbe Feyisara, was intercepted at Seme border, carrying nearly 7 kilograms of high-grade cannabis. Additionally, at Lagos’ Tincan seaport, operatives seized codeine-based syrup valued at over N2.2 billion.
In Edo State, authorities arrested two women involved in selling drug-laced cookies and cakes online, and at Oghada village, a suspect was caught with 288 kilograms of cannabis. Other significant seizures included tramadol pills, Rohypnol tablets, and quantities of “skuchies,” an illicit drink mix, in Oyo and Kogi states.
These operations highlight NDLEA’s sustained efforts in combating drug trafficking and its focus on dismantling drug syndicates operating across Nigerian borders.
