- The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a 35-year-old woman, Chidinma Chinenye Agbazue, for allegedly trying to smuggle 20 parcels of cannabis sativa weighing 10.70 kilograms. The drugs were hidden in African salad, known as Abacha, and dried vegetables, destined for Doha, Qatar, via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
According to Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Chidinma was intercepted at the screening point of terminal 11 of the MMIA. She had returned to Nigeria from Qatar in December and was preparing to go back when she was caught. The agency also arrested two other suspects, Monday Okeke and Chigozie Emeka, who were found with 842,560 pills of opioids, including tramadol, along with other substances.
In a separate incident in Bayelsa, three suspects were arrested for attempting to smuggle opioids, including codeine and tramadol, weighing a total of 73.425 kilograms to the creeks in Southern Ijaw. The drugs were concealed in jumbo sacks and transported to the jetty in a tricycle. Additionally, NDLEA operatives in Taraba recovered 39,980 pills of tramadol and arrested a suspect with 131kg of cannabis sativa.
In their efforts to combat drug abuse, NDLEA commands conducted sensitization lectures in various locations, including schools, mosques, and communities across the country. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the officers and men for their efforts in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
