The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State has reported the arrest of 319 suspects and the seizure of 4.7 tonnes of illicit drugs between January and March 2024. According to Mr Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, the NDLEA Commander in Kano State, the suspects include 14 females and 305 males.
During an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Kano, Idris-Ahmad disclosed that the seized drugs include 2.3kg of marijuana, 2.4kg of psychotropic substances, over five million pills of tramadol, and 1.9kg of other dangerous substances. The command also secured 33 convictions for drug trafficking and related offenses within the same period.
In addition to the arrests and seizures, the NDLEA rehabilitated 26 drug addicts, processed 38 visa clearances, and conducted 30 drug integrity tests. The agency also dislodged 39 illicit drug joints that were hubs for drug activities in the state.
Idris-Ahmad reassured residents of Kano of the NDLEA's commitment to ensuring a peaceful and drug-free holiday during the forthcoming Eid-El-Fitr celebration. He emphasized the agency's dedication to creating a drug-free society and maintaining law and order in Kano State.
