The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded significant achievements in Kogi State, arresting 284 suspects and seizing over 5,232,575 kilograms of illicit drugs between January and December 2024. Commander Mustapha Yahuza made this announcement during a news conference in Lokoja, highlighting the agency’s intensified crackdown on drug abuse and trafficking.
The operation also led to the confiscation of counterfeit currency worth $2 million and ₦20.4 million, as well as the destruction of 10 hectares of marijuana plantations. Drugs seized included Cannabis Sativa, Tramadol, Methamphetamine, Cocaine, and Heroin. Yahuza noted that 91 individuals were convicted, while others await trial at the Federal High Court in Lokoja.
Beyond enforcement, the NDLEA prioritised prevention, sensitising 51 schools and organisations on the dangers of drug abuse and counselling 195 individuals. These efforts align with the agency’s broader strategy of advocacy and drug demand reduction.
Commander Yahuza commended his team for their dedication and professionalism, urging communities to reject drug consumption and trafficking due to its devastating societal impact. Seized exhibits have been handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
