Over the weekend, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) uncovered stashes of illegal drugs in Lagos, including a significant haul at the Igbo-Igunuko shrine in Ajah and an underground bunker in Lekki. Approximately 2,760kg of suspected Ghanaian Loud, a potent cannabis strain, was recovered from the Ajah shrine, with two suspects, Gbenga Abiodun and Sunday Abiodun, taken into custody.
In a related raid, NDLEA agents discovered 11,786 pills of various opioids, including tramadol and codeine syrup, hidden in a bedroom bunker at Marwa Coastal Road, Lekki. The owner, Muhammad Warnos Abdullahi, allegedly concealed the underground storage beneath his bed, camouflaged with an iron slate and rug.
On the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, agents also arrested Ademola Oyelakin with 770kg of suspected cannabis on Friday. Meanwhile, additional opioid shipments disguised within shoe soles and hair attachments bound for the United States, UK, and Cyprus were intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and three courier companies.
Further investigations led to the recovery of 2,118 tramadol pills in shoe soles at Lagos Airport on October 12, with another 380 tablets seized from sender Okenwa Kelvin Uchenna in Enugu. NDLEA also confiscated N968,880 and a Toyota Avalon during Uchenna's arrest, strengthening their crackdown on drug trafficking networks across the state.
