Salman Garba, the newly appointed commissioner of police in Kano State, declared his commitment to impartiality and serving all Nigerians during his first briefing on Wednesday, June 26. Responding to concerns about his neutrality in the emirate dispute between Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Bayero, Garba emphasized his dedication to his role, dismissing claims of familial ties with Bayero.

Garba, addressing journalists at the police headquarters in Bompai, assured that his primary focus would be on ensuring the security and well-being of Kano residents. He acknowledged the remarkable achievements of his predecessor, AIG Ussain Gumel, and emphasized continuity in maintaining effective security measures in the state.

Highlighting his commitment, Garba said, "I am here to serve Nigerians. The news of me belonging to the same family as Bayero is new to me; this is the first time I have heard it. For me, I will do my best for Kano." He pledged to uphold the law and work diligently to protect lives and property.

Garba outlined his strategic plan for a safer Kano, which includes robust community policing, collaboration with other security agencies, and the use of technology in investigations. He assured that the Kano State Police Command, under his leadership, would strive to create a secure environment where residents and businesses can thrive.
