Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays ahead of the November 1 local government elections.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement signed by the Information Officer from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Tanko Lawal. According to the statement, the directive was issued by the SSG, Abubakar Usman.
The work-free days, the statement noted, are to give residents enough time to travel to their polling units and participate fully in the elections.
“All eligible voters are encouraged to use the period to prepare and ensure they cast their votes on Saturday,” the statement read.
The government also announced that markets, banks, financial institutions, and public offices would remain closed during the two days. Movement of persons and vehicles will be restricted, except for those on essential duties.
