Niger Governor Appoints Obed Nana as New Commissioner for Information

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has appointed Obed Nana as the new Commissioner for Information. Nana, who hails from Tafa Local Government Area, takes over from Binta Mammam, a former member of the State House of Assembly who served in the role throughout the governor’s first term.

Before his appointment, Nana worked as a director at the Niger State Environmental Protection Agency. He also has a background in broadcast journalism, having previously worked with the Nigerian Television Authority, where he gained experience in information management and public communication.

The appointments were announced on Saturday in an official statement released by the state government, which also unveiled the portfolios of 29 other newly appointed commissioners across various ministries.

Among the key appointments are Lawal Maikano (Finance), Nasiru Mu’azu (Justice), Kabiru Abbas (Works and Infrastructure), Aminu Takuma (Investment), Mustapha Ndajiwo (Budget and Planning), Mohammed Danjuma (Mineral Resources), and Abdulrazak Mu’azu (Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs).

Others include Abubakar Musa (Environment), Abdullahi Maje (Transportation), Murtala Bagana (Health), Hadiza Kuta (Women Affairs), Mu’azu Jantabo (Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs), Faruq Audi (Water Resources and Irrigation), Abdullahi Mammamgi (Livestock and Aquaculture), and Isah Rijau (Agriculture).

Additional commissioners were appointed to oversee Tertiary Education, Basic and Secondary Education, Lands, Sports Development, Pastoral and Nomadic Affairs, Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Commerce and Industry, Homeland Security, Power and Renewable Energy, Rural Development, Housing and Urban Development, Youth and Social Development, Art and Culture, as well as Technical and Vocational Education.

In the statement, the state government said the appointments reflect another step toward strengthening governance in Niger State. Governor Bago urged the commissioners to work closely with permanent secretaries, agency heads, and other stakeholders to deliver tangible results for residents.

He also called on the people of the state to support the new commissioners as they begin their duties, noting that their roles are central to advancing development and improving the well-being of citizens under the administration’s “New Niger” vision.
