Nigeria Achieves Record Power Generation of 5,713.60 MW, the Highest in Four Years

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a significant achievement in the country’s power generation, with a peak of 5,713.60 megawatts (MW) recorded on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. This milestone marks the highest power generation level in four years and surpasses the previous peak by 170.40 MW.

Details of the Record-Breaking Generation

The new generation peak of 5,713.60 MW was successfully transmitted across the national grid, with TCN stating that this figure exceeds the previous peak of 5,543.20 MW, which was recorded on February 14, 2025.

“This was recorded on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 21:30 hours, with the new generation peak of 5,713.60 megawatts, surpassing the previous peak generation of 5,543.20 MW achieved on February 14, 2025, by 170.40 MW,” the statement read.

New Daily Energy Generation Record

In addition to the impressive generation peak, TCN also reported a new record for maximum daily energy generation at 125,542.06 megawatt-hours (MWh). This surpasses the previous record of 125,159.48 MWh set in February 2025 by 382.58 MWh.

“A new record for the maximum daily energy ever attained in the history of the electricity industry in Nigeria was also set yesterday, with a total of 125,542.06 MWh,” TCN added.

Nigerian Power Sector Continues to Improve

While the latest peak generation of 5,713.60 MW remains 88 MW lower than the all-time record of 5,801.60 MW, which was set on March 1, 2021, TCN emphasized that this achievement represents significant progress in the country’s power sector.

These milestones highlight the ongoing efforts to improve Nigeria's power generation and transmission infrastructure, and TCN’s achievements demonstrate the sector's potential for further growth and development in the coming years.
