Nigeria Customs Reports Record-Breaking N66.34 Trillion Trade Surplus for 2024

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a significant trade surplus of N66.34 trillion for 2024, signaling a strong performance in the nation's trade sector. Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi shared the update during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, highlighting the N136.65 trillion in exports against N60.29 trillion in imports for the year.

The total trade volume for 2024 stood at an impressive N196.94 trillion, underscoring Nigeria's growing presence in international trade. Adeniyi also noted a sharp rise in the NCS revenue, which soared to N6.10 trillion, nearly doubling the N3.2 trillion collected in 2023.

The Comptroller-General attributed this success to improved efficiency and reforms within the Customs Service. He further disclosed that the organization witnessed unprecedented interest in its recruitment process, with over 573,000 applications submitted in just one week.

The achievements of the NCS reflect ongoing efforts to bolster the country’s economy and facilitate trade, as Nigeria continues to assert itself as a key player in global commerce.
