The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced another increase in the cost of obtaining the Nigerian Standard Passport, effective September 1, 2025.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Service Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the NIS confirmed that the new charges apply only to passport applications processed within Nigeria.
According to the revised structure, a 32-page passport with a five-year validity will now cost ₦100,000, while the 64-page booklet with a 10-year validity will go for ₦200,000.
However, the Service clarified that application fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged, standing at $150 for the 32-page, five-year option and $230 for the 64-page, 10-year passport.

Explaining the rationale behind the adjustment, the NIS said the review is intended to maintain the quality and integrity of Nigerian passports while ensuring accessibility for citizens.
This development marks the second consecutive year of upward review. In August 2024, the Federal Government approved a price hike that came into effect on September 1, 2024. That adjustment had increased the 32-page, five-year passport from ₦35,000 to ₦50,000, while the 64-page, 10-year booklet rose from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000.
At the time, the NIS justified the increment as necessary to sustain the passport’s quality and improve service delivery.
With this latest adjustment, Nigerians applying for passports locally will now pay double the fees introduced just a year ago, a move likely to spark fresh debates about affordability and government policy.
