The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has issued a directive for increased vigilance among its personnel to prevent foreign elements from entering the country during the planned nationwide protests. The directive, aimed at maintaining national security, was issued by the Comptroller General of the Service, Kemi Nana Nandap.
In a statement released by the Service Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, Nandap instructed Zonal Heads, State Command Comptrollers, Divisional Immigration Officers, and Border Comptrollers to enhance surveillance and security measures. "All personnel and concerned officers in the Service across the country are urged to be extra vigilant and intensify surveillance in view of the planned nationwide protest by some groups," the statement read.
Nandap emphasized the critical role of the NIS in safeguarding the nation's borders, particularly during periods of potential unrest. She called on officers, especially Heads of Border Commands, to ensure that no foreign elements exploit the protests to destabilize the country.
The Comptroller General also announced a temporary suspension of all leave applications for NIS personnel, urging officers to demonstrate utmost professionalism and patriotism in their duties during and after the protests. She reiterated the importance of protecting Nigeria, stating, "Nigeria is the only country we have as our own."
Nandap assured the public of the NIS's commitment to enhancing national security by safeguarding the nation's borders and preventing any threats during the planned protests.
