The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has suspended Mr. Akomolafe Gbenga Michael, an officer stationed at Murtala Muhammad International Airport, on charges of alleged drug trafficking. The suspension follows Akomolafe's arraignment at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

In a statement by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Kenneth Udo, it was confirmed that Akomolafe is currently undergoing internal disciplinary procedures. Udo emphasized that the NIS is awaiting the court's decision, which began proceedings in May, before making any further statements.

"The Service fully supports the court proceedings aimed at determining the level of his culpability. Nigeria Immigration Service awaits the court judgement before making further comments to avoid subjudice," Udo stated.

The NIS reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards of service, discipline, and zero tolerance for criminal activities, promising strict action against any officer found violating these principles.
