Nigeria Sympathizes with Turkiye Over Deadly Hotel Fire Incident

The Nigerian government has extended its condolences to the Republic of Turkiye following a tragic fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in the Kartalkaya Ski Resort, which claimed 76 lives and left over 50 injured.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Acting Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, conveyed Nigeria's solidarity with the people and government of Turkiye during this difficult time.

“The Federal Republic of Nigeria wishes to express deep condolence to the Government and People of the Republic of Turkiye over the unfortunate fire incident at the Grand Kartal Hotel in the Kartalkaya Ski Resort.

“The fire, which claimed the lives of 76 persons and injured more than 50 others in Bolu Province in Northwestern Turkiye, was reported to have started in the early hours of Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria sympathises with the Government of the Republic of Turkiye and the families of the victims of the fire incident, and also wishes a speedy recovery of the injured,” the statement read.

The Nigerian government reiterated its support for Turkiye during this time of national mourning and expressed hope for the swift recovery of the injured survivors.
