Nigeria Will Overcome Insecurity, Tinubu Working Round the Clock – First Lady

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has assured Nigerians that the country will soon overcome its security challenges, stressing that President Bola Tinubu remains fully committed to protecting lives and property across the nation.

Speaking during a meeting with traditional rulers in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday as part of her one-day working visit to Ekiti State, Mrs Tinubu described the persistent cases of kidnapping, banditry and killings in parts of the country as disturbing and painful.

She, however, said the Federal Government was implementing both local and international security strategies to tackle the situation, noting that some of the efforts being made could not be disclosed publicly for security reasons.

According to her, President Tinubu has strengthened partnerships with countries such as the United States and other developed nations to support Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.

“It is disheartening that we still have insecurity in our country. A lot of foreign countries are supporting Nigeria in this fight. The United States and several other developed nations are assisting us,” she said.

The First Lady revealed that some of those responsible for attacks and kidnappings were not Nigerians, adding that the government was determined to defeat criminal elements threatening national peace and stability.

“No matter what happens, we shall overcome. Nigeria is too great to be intimidated. The President is working tirelessly every day to ensure this problem is resolved,” she added.

Mrs Tinubu called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and prayerful, saying collective efforts and faith would help the country overcome its current challenges.

She also highlighted some of the achievements of her Renewed Hope Initiative, including the construction of a modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre at Ekiti State University and the establishment of scholarship awards worth N200 million for students.

The First Lady further disclosed that 2,000 traders had been empowered with grants of N50,000 each, while vulnerable groups, including elderly citizens and persons living with disabilities, were receiving support through various intervention programmes.

She thanked the traditional rulers for their support for President Tinubu and Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, describing their encouragement as a major source of motivation for both leaders.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers and the Ogoga of Ikere-Ekiti, Oba Adejimi Adu-Alagbado, praised the First Lady for her respect for traditional institutions and her contributions to improving the lives of Nigerians.

The monarch also commended President Tinubu’s economic and governance reforms, pledging the support of Ekiti traditional rulers for the administration.

He, however, called for stronger action against insecurity, including a review of laws dealing with kidnapping and violent crimes, as well as the speedy creation of state police.

“There should be a review of laws dealing with insecurity. Those aiding and abetting kidnappers should face serious punishment. The bill on state police should also be fast-tracked because communities need stronger protection,” the monarch said.

Oba Adu-Alagbado also expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and pledged continued support for his administration ahead of the 2027 elections, describing him as a leader committed to transforming the country.
