Nigerian Army Begins Nationwide Screening for Children of Fallen Soldiers

The Nigerian Army has announced a nationwide verification and screening exercise for children of personnel who died while serving the country, as part of its educational sponsorship programme for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The announcement was made in a notice shared on the Army’s official X handle on Thursday. According to the notice, the exercise will take place across the six geopolitical zones between February and March 2026.

The Army explained that the sponsorship scheme is a welfare initiative designed to support the education of children of fallen personnel from primary level up to tertiary institutions.

For the South-South zone, the screening will hold from February 23 to 26, 2026, at the Headquarters of 6 Division in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The South-East exercise is scheduled for February 28 to March 3, 2026, at the Headquarters of 82 Division in Enugu State, while the South-West screening will run from March 5 to 8, 2026, at the Headquarters of 2 Division in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In the North-East, verification will take place from March 11 to 14, 2026, at the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army Armour Corps in Bauchi State. The North-West screening will hold from March 16 to 20, 2026, at the Headquarters of 1 Division in Kaduna State.

The North Central zone and the Federal Capital Territory exercise will be conducted from March 23 to 27, 2026, at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess in Asokoro, Abuja.

The Army urged all applicants to attend with the required documents, including handwritten application letters, admission letters, school results, birth certificates, and official military documents such as Part II orders, death certificates, condolence letters, and casualty notifications.

Other documents requested include passport photographs, bank details, BVN, school fee receipts, and a bank statement printout showing the account name and number.
