Nigerian Army Dismantles 37 Illegal Refineries in Niger Delta, Arrests Nine Suspects

Troops of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, have intensified clearance operations in the Niger Delta region, dismantling 37 illegal refineries across various creeks, waterways, and rivulets. The operations aim to curtail criminal activities and disrupt the establishment of new illegal bunkering hubs.

According to a statement by Lt. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, the troops identified 10 illegal oil connection points, destroyed six wooden boats, and arrested nine suspects. Additionally, seven vehicles, eight motorcycles, four trucks, and 221,000 litres of illegally refined products were confiscated.

The operations covered various locations, including Rivers, Delta, Edo, and Bayelsa states. Troops intercepted stolen crude oil and dismantled illegal refining sites, ensuring a clampdown on oil theft in the region. All arrested suspects have been handed over to appropriate authorities for prosecution.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Maj.-Gen. Jamal Abdussalam, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to safeguarding oil infrastructure and supporting economic stability in the region.
