Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Mourns Personnel Killed in Koton-Karfe Jailbreak

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed the tragic death of Correctional Assistant, Shuaibu King David, who was killed during a jailbreak at the Koton-Karfe custodial centre on Monday.

According to a statement issued by the NCoS Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Corrections, Umar Abubakar, SCA Shuaibu King David bravely stood his ground in an attempt to prevent the escape of inmates and protect the integrity of the custodial centre.

The statement further acknowledged his courageous sacrifice, highlighting his unwavering commitment to duty and national security. “His courageous sacrifice reflects his unwavering dedication to service and national security,” the statement read.

The Acting Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche MFR, expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the entire NCoS, offering heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues, and loved ones of the late personnel. “His service and ultimate sacrifice will forever be remembered and honoured,” the NCoS added.

In response to the incident, the Nigerian Correctional Service assured the public that it is working closely with relevant security agencies and local communities to recapture the inmates still at large and bring them to justice. Additionally, the NCoS is taking steps to enhance security measures across all custodial centres nationwide to prevent future occurrences.

The NCoS reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of officers and the security of custodial facilities across the country.
