The Nigerian Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit Zone B, has reported the confiscation of contraband valued at over N400 million in operations across the North-West and North-Central regions.
The seizures include thirty-seven bales and four rolls of police camouflage uniforms found in a container, resulting in the arrest of four suspects.
Comptroller Dalha Chedi, briefing reporters on the unit's activities from November to December 2023, revealed that the operations, conducted along the Lokoja-Abuja Expressway, were based on credible intelligence.
The unit intercepted a total of 71 seizures involving 12 different items, posing serious threat to the health and safety of Nigerians.
Chedi highlighted the unit's substantial achievements in 2023, with seizures totaling over N4 billion in duty-paid value—an impressive 100% increase from the N2 billion recorded in 2022.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna Area Command of the Nigerian Customs reported a 21.93% revenue increase, generating over N16 billion from import and excise duty in 2023. This marked the first time the command collected over N2 billion in revenue, emphasising its accessibility to importers, exporters, and terminal operators.
