Governors from Nigeria's 36 states have pledged their support for the ongoing efforts by the National Assembly to amend the 1999 Constitution. This commitment was made after a briefing by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, during a meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) held in Abuja on Wednesday night.
Kalu, who also chairs the House Committee on Constitution Review, informed the governors of the progress made so far, revealing that over 161 proposed amendments are under consideration. He assured that further details would be shared in future engagements to enhance collaboration.
“The meeting was to align the governors with the legislative efforts aimed at addressing critical issues through constitutional reform,” Kalu stated.
The governors also expressed their willingness to collaborate with the Federal Government on reforms in the education sector following a presentation by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa.
These discussions highlight the governors' commitment to advancing constitutional and educational reforms as part of broader national development efforts.
