The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), comprising 36 state governors, has reiterated its commitment to enhancing security at the subnational level. This pledge was made during a briefing by National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, addressing the upcoming nationwide protest scheduled for August 1-10, which has raised tensions across the country. Ribadu assured the governors of his support in bolstering security infrastructure.
The meeting, chaired by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, highlighted ongoing security concerns and the planned protests. A communique from the meeting expressed the governors' gratitude for the NSA’s support and reaffirmed their dedication to safeguarding lives and property. Despite a scheduled discussion, the governors did not address the Supreme Court's ruling on local government autonomy in their final statement.

Local government autonomy was a key agenda item, but the governors' stance on the Supreme Court's recent decision remained undisclosed. The court had ruled that state governors could no longer withhold funds meant for the 774 local government areas, a significant legal development. Governors and deputy governors from various states attended the extensive meeting, which covered a range of topics, including health sector investments and collaboration with the World Bank. The forum pledged continued support for these initiatives, emphasizing their role in driving national development and ensuring effective governance.
