The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has issued a stern warning against individuals or groups advocating for a military takeover in Nigeria, deeming such actions treasonable under the Constitution. In a statement by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, the military reiterated its loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration and its unwavering commitment to upholding democracy in the nation.

Brigadier General Gusau clarified that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) remain focused on their constitutional duties, including protecting the nation's territorial integrity and ensuring peace and security. He specifically addressed a viral video promoting military intervention, emphasizing that those behind such advocacy should recognize the legal implications of their actions.

The DHQ acknowledged that the current relative peace in the country results from President Tinubu's support for the military and the dedication of its leadership. Gusau reassured Nigerians that the military, in collaboration with other security agencies, will take all necessary measures to thwart any attempts at unconstitutional change, reinforcing their commitment to maintaining national stability.

In light of the recent concerns, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) expressed gratitude to the public for their support and prayers, assuring them that the military is prepared to confront any threats to the nation's democracy. The DHQ’s firm stance highlights its resolve to protect democratic governance in Nigeria amidst growing discussions of military intervention.
