Nigerian Powerhouse Shatters African Shot Put Record at Olympic Qualifier!

Chukwuebuka Enekwachi, a Nigerian athlete based in the U.S., has set a new African record in shot put, reaching an impressive 21.63 meters during an Olympic qualifying event in the Czech Republic. Solomon Ogba, 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), announced this achievement, highlighting that it also secures Enekwachi's spot in the Olympics.

 

Enekwachi's outstanding performance at the Hvezdy v. Nehvizdech meet not only surpassed the indoor African record of 21.47 meters set in 2001 but also marked a significant personal best for him. Born on January 28, 1993, Enekwachi, a Nigerian-American athlete, specializes in throwing events and represents Nigeria in international competitions.

 

Ogba praised Enekwachi's track record, noting that he is the 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medalist and the current African shot put champion. Enekwachi also holds the title of reigning Nigerian National Sports Festival Champion, showcasing his prowess in the sport.

 

In the same Olympic qualifier, another Nigerian athlete, Ruth Usoro, achieved success in the jumps, leaping 6.87 meters and qualifying for the Paris 2024 Games. These accomplishments highlight Nigeria's growing presence and success in international athletics.
