Nigerian Stars Omotayo and Edem to Lead Charge at 2024 WTT Contender Lagos

With Quadri Aruna absent, Olajide Omotayo and Offiong Edem are set to spearhead Nigeria's campaign at the 2024 WTT Contender Lagos. The tournament kicks off at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, showcasing top-tier table tennis talent.

In the Men’s Singles, Omotayo, the 2019 African Games champion, leads seven Nigerian contenders aiming for second-round berths. Omotayo’s first match pits him against India’s Manav Thakkar. Junior standout Matthew Kuti faces Frenchman Thibault Poret, while Azeez Solanke, Mustapha Mustapha, and Abdulbasit Abdulfatai prepare for tough matches against opponents from China and India. A notable first-round matchup features brothers Amadi Omeh and Muiz Adegoke facing each other.

In the Women’s Singles, Edem squares off against fellow Nigerian Fatimo Bello in her opening round. Reigning women’s singles champion Shin Yubin begins her title defense against India's Archana Kamath. Meanwhile, 2024 Africa Cup champion Dina Meshref of Egypt will compete against Chinese teenager Xu Huiyao.
