Nigerians Arrested in India Over Cocaine Trafficking

Two Nigerian nationals have been arrested in separate drug trafficking cases in India, according to local authorities.

In Hyderabad, a Nigerian woman was taken into custody on Friday after officials discovered 7.5 grams of cocaine in her possession. Acting on intelligence, operatives of the excise department intercepted her shortly after she arrived from Mumbai. She was reportedly found near the Paradise area, where she was waiting to hand over the drugs to an unidentified buyer.

Authorities said five packets of cocaine were recovered from her belongings during a search. Preliminary findings suggest she bought the drugs in Mumbai for about ₹15,000 (roughly ₦1.8 million) with plans to resell them at a higher price in Hyderabad. She has since been charged under India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, while investigations continue into her network and source of supply.

In a separate operation in New Delhi, a 35-year-old Nigerian man identified as John Chibuike was arrested in the Mehrauli area. Police recovered one kilogram of high-grade cocaine from his residence following a raid.

Security operatives said the arrest followed weeks of surveillance targeting a suspected drug distribution network in the city. The seizure is considered a major disruption to cocaine supply chains in parts of Delhi.

Investigators also revealed that the suspect had a prior record linked to a similar offence in 2022. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track his associates and dismantle the wider network.

The arrests come just days after another Nigerian national was apprehended in Bengaluru for allegedly running a large MDMA distribution operation, highlighting growing concerns over international drug trafficking networks operating within India.
