Nigeria’s quest for table tennis glory at the 2024 Paris Olympics begins this Saturday with Quadri Aruna facing Romania's Eduard Ionescu in the men’s singles first round. Aruna's match-up follows a draw held at the South Paris Arena, setting up a chance for revenge against Ionescu, who defeated him 2-3 in the European Champions League semi-finals.
Teammate Olajide Omotayo will also compete in the first round against Iran's Noshad Alamiyan. In the women's singles, Offiong Edem is set to battle Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi, while debutant Fatimo Bello will face Jia Nana Yuan, a Chinese-born French player.
The table tennis events at the Paris Games will run from Saturday to August 10, featuring five medal events: men’s and women’s singles, mixed doubles, and men’s and women’s team. Key dates include the women’s singles medal matches on August 3, men’s singles on August 4, and mixed doubles on August 6. The men’s team event will conclude on August 9, with the women’s team final on August 10.
