The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across most parts of the country between Monday and Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains on Monday morning over Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba states. Similar conditions are expected later in the day across much of the northern region, with flash floods likely in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe.
For the central region, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are expected Monday morning, alongside moderate rainfall in Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the FCT, and Benue. Thunderstorms with moderate rain are forecast later in the day.
The southern region is expected to experience cloudy conditions on Monday morning with moderate rains in Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River. Widespread moderate rains are anticipated in the evening.
On Tuesday, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals will prevail in the north, with isolated thunderstorms expected in Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa. Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rains are forecast across Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Taraba.
The central region will see cloudy conditions in the morning, with rainfall in Kogi, Niger, the FCT, Kwara, and Nasarawa. Afternoon thunderstorms are expected across Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the FCT.
For the south, moderate rains are likely on Tuesday morning in Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Delta, with light to moderate rains expected across the region later in the day.
On Wednesday, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are forecast in the north, with thunderstorms and moderate rains likely in Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto. The central region will see light rains in the morning across the FCT, Kogi, Kwara, and Niger, followed by thunderstorms later in Benue, Kwara, Kogi, and Niger. The south will remain cloudy in the morning, with moderate rains later in the day.
NiMet advised motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall, urged farmers not to apply fertilisers or pesticides just before rainfall to prevent leaching, and cautioned residents to fasten loose objects, disconnect appliances, and avoid tall trees during storms. Airline operators were also urged to obtain airport-specific weather reports for planning.
