Nine Dead in Road Accident Along Malumfashi-Kafur Road During Sallah Celebration
At least nine people have died in a tragic road accident on Sunday morning along the Malumfashi-Kafur road in Katsina State, which marred the Sallah celebration.
The Katsina Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Aliyu Ma’aji, confirmed the incident, explaining that it was a "lone accident" involving a Hummer bus carrying 20 passengers.
"Nine passengers died on the spot, while 11 others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment," Ma'aji said. Preliminary investigations have attributed the cause of the crash to "speeding and loss of control."
The FRSC commander urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly during festive periods, warning against speeding, overloading, and reckless driving.
Despite ongoing efforts by the State Government to improve road infrastructure, Ma'aji emphasized that reckless driving continues to be a leading cause of fatal accidents in the state.
