The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have decided to suspend their ongoing nationwide strike for one week, following disagreements with the Federal Government over a new national minimum wage. A source at the ongoing NEC meeting in Abuja confirmed the decision to our correspondent.
"A joint NEC meeting of TUC/NLC has approved to relax the industrial action for one week with immediate effect," the source revealed.
The strike, which began on Monday, had entered its second day on Tuesday, significantly disrupting economic activities. The Federal Government, in a meeting with labour leaders on Monday, expressed a commitment to increasing the proposed minimum wage of N60,000.
Labour is expected to resume discussions with the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage today, aiming to reach an agreement that satisfies all parties involved.
