After months of heated rivalry and public disagreements, Nigeria’s top oil refiners—NNPC Limited and Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals—have agreed to put their differences behind them and focus on fostering healthy competition and mutually beneficial partnerships aimed at advancing Nigeria’s energy security.
This commitment to collaboration was made official during a recent meeting at the NNPC Towers in Abuja, where Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of Dangote Group, visited the Group CEO of NNPC Ltd., Mr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, and members of NNPC’s senior management team. During the meeting, Dangote emphasized that there would be no competition between the two companies, asserting that NNPC and Dangote Group are integral parts of each other’s business and must now work together for the country’s progress.
Dangote remarked, “There is no competition between us, we are not here to compete with NNPC Ltd. NNPC is part and parcel of our business and we are also part of NNPC. This is an era of co-operation between the two organizations.” His comments signal a new chapter for the relationship, moving beyond the tense petrol price war that had recently led to the suspension and eventual reinstatement of the crude-for-Naira deal brokered by the Federal Government.
In return, Ojulari assured Dangote that the NNPC would remain committed to healthy competition while ensuring that collaborations between the two companies serve Nigeria’s best interests. Ojulari also praised the workforce at NNPC, acknowledging their dedication, skill, and readiness to deliver value to the nation.
Both leaders expressed a vision of continued collaboration and growth, with a focus on using shared resources and expertise to promote national prosperity and energy security. The two organizations have now committed to sustaining a relationship based on productive collaboration, with an emphasis on leveraging each other’s strengths to achieve sustainable growth for Nigeria.
