The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has refuted claims that it sells substandard petrol with a high burn rate. The denial follows a viral video alleging that fuel from an NNPC station performed poorly compared to petrol from Dangote refinery.
In a statement on Saturday, NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye dismissed the video’s claims as “baseless and unfounded,” criticizing the content creator's unverified and unprofessional comparison. According to Soneye, the petrol sold at the NNPC station in question was sourced from the Dangote refinery, a key partner in local fuel production.
NNPCL emphasized that its fuel meets rigorous industry standards, ensuring efficiency and durability. The company condemned the video as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and harm its reputation, vowing to pursue legal action against those spreading false information.
The statement urged Nigerians to disregard the misleading content and rely on verified sources for accurate information. NNPCL reaffirmed its commitment to providing high-quality fuel while maintaining global industry standards and protecting the interests of Nigerian consumers.
