A faction of the New Nigeria People’s Party has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to immediately implement a High Court ruling recognising the Agbo Major-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

Justice Bello Kawu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court had ruled on Tuesday, March 17, that INEC must recognise the Major-led NWC and update its records within 72 hours to reflect the party’s authentic leadership.

In a statement in Lagos on Saturday, NNPP National Secretary Ogini Olaposi said the commission should no longer delay uploading the national executives on its website. He added that INEC’s acceptance of correspondence from the rival Dr. Ahmed Ajuji-led faction was “regrettable” and contrary to the court’s order.

The statement stressed that notices of appeal or motions for stay do not prevent INEC from executing valid court orders and that no stay of execution had been granted or served on the commission. Olaposi noted, “The order of Justice Bello Kawu is specific, direct, positive, and compelling that INEC should within 72 hours update and recognise the Major-led NWC and revert to the original logo of the NNPP.”

The party urged members to remain calm and continue nationwide membership drives, affirming that it is now confident of full participation in the 2027 general elections. While reaffirming that members expelled for anti-party activities remain expelled, the NNPP said those who defected to other parties would be welcomed back.

“With our victory in court, the sky is now our limit, and we will do our best to ensure the NNPP thrives in the election and other off-cycle polls nationwide,” the statement concluded.
