NNPP Gains Momentum in Kano as 1,000 Defect from APC

The ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State received a significant boost over the weekend with the defection of 1,000 members from the All Progressives Congress (APC). This announcement was made by Ibrahim Shuaibu, the spokesperson for the Deputy Governor of Kano State, in a statement on Sunday. The defectors were officially welcomed into the NNPP on Saturday by the Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo.

The mass defection comes amidst internal strife within the APC in Kano State. Last week, there was a suspension announcement by the Ganduje faction in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Ward, suspending the APC National Chairman and former governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje. This move was in response to bribery charges filed against Ganduje by the NNPP-led state government.

During the reception of the defectors at the Government House in Kano, the Deputy Governor emphasized the importance of local government caretaker chairmen residing in their respective councils to ensure effective leadership and close interaction with the people. He warned that absentee leadership would not be tolerated and stated his intention to make surprise visits to assess their commitment.

Gwarzo also urged the local government leaders to prioritize impactful projects in critical sectors like healthcare, education, and water supply. He reiterated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to implementing programs that benefit the people of Kano State.
