The North East Unity Forum (NUF) has urged the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to take decisive action against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in order to restore discipline within the party. In a statement issued on Tuesday by its convener, Abubakar Kabir, the Forum criticized Wike, describing him as a "self-serving politician" whose recent actions threaten national stability and the integrity of the PDP.

The NUF highlighted Wike's recent remarks during a PDP state congress in Port Harcourt, where he warned governors against interfering in Rivers State politics, even threatening to "put fire in their states" if they did so. The Forum condemned these statements as "reckless" and a "direct assault on the peace and stability of our nation."

“The NUF argues that his threats to ‘put fire in the states’ of governors supporting Fubara are not only reckless but also a direct assault on the peace and stability of our nation. His declaration that governors interfering in Rivers State ‘will never sleep in your state’ is a dangerous provocation that threatens the very fabric of our democracy and national stability," the statement read.

The Forum called on President Bola Tinubu to dismiss Wike from his role as FCT Minister, arguing that his behavior is unfit for someone holding such a significant public office. They also urged the PDP leadership to sanction Wike to uphold the party's principles of democracy, unity, and loyalty.

“President Tinubu must choose between upholding the rule of law, decency, and common sense, or aligning with an irredeemably compromised politician like Wike, who is determined to create violence and instability to remain in the public limelight, to the detriment of Nigeria’s interests," the NUF stated.

The Forum emphasized that taking action against Wike is crucial for maintaining discipline within the PDP and preserving Nigeria's democratic principles. They called on the party to reject what they termed as "political hooliganism" and uphold justice, respect, and integrity.

The controversy surrounding Wike's comments has sparked tensions within the PDP, with party leaders recently reminding the former Rivers State Governor that no one is above the party. The NUF's call for sanctions reflects growing concerns within the party about Wike's influence and the potential impact of his actions on the nation's political stability.
