Senators representing the nineteen northern states and the FCT, under the Northern Senators Forum (NSF), have voiced deep concerns over persistent power outages in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa. The Forum described the crisis as a major setback for residents and businesses, exacerbating economic hardships and disrupting healthcare services.

According to NSF, the outages stem from issues including vandalism and national grid instability, leading to high fuel costs and leaving small businesses struggling to survive. Hospitals have reported rising operational costs, while many livelihoods remain severely impacted.

In an appeal led by NSF Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, the Forum urged the Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, to address the crisis with urgency. They called for expedited repairs to the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission lines to restore dependable electricity supply to the affected areas.

The NSF also recommended enhanced security to safeguard power infrastructure from vandalism and backed initiatives from the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) for renewable energy and mini-grid solutions to ensure sustainable power options. The Forum acknowledged the administration’s efforts in power distribution but emphasized the need for immediate action to relieve constituents and revive economic activity.
