In a major breakthrough, the Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a suspected notorious cattle rustler and kidnapper, Abashe Gizo, who had long been on the command’s wanted list.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, in a statement on Sunday in Lafia, revealed that Gizo was arrested on Saturday at Shinge Market following an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
“The suspect, who had been on the run for an extended period, was finally tracked down and arrested. Upon interrogation, he confessed to the crimes and led officers to his hideout in Ruwan Baka village, Doma Local Government Area,” Nansel said.
During a follow-up operation, police recovered one AK-49 rifle (Breach No. 453144) and a magazine from the hideout.
This arrest follows closely on the heels of another high-profile case involving 21-year-old Fatima Salisu, who was apprehended last week while transporting 481 rounds of live ammunition from Doma to Katsina State. Salisu has since been slated for arraignment.
The state Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, praised the operatives for their dedication and reiterated the command’s commitment to rooting out criminal elements from all parts of Nasarawa.
“We urge the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity. Our collective safety depends on community collaboration,” the statement read.
