NSC Moves to Establish Nigeria’s Official Flag Football Federation

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced that it is finalising plans to officially approve and inaugurate Nigeria’s first recognised Flag Football Federation, with elections for new executives set to follow immediately after its launch.

According to a statement by the Special Assistant on Media to the NSC Director General, Kola Daniel, the commission clarified that no local or international body has ever been formally recognised to represent Nigeria in flag football. The NSC noted that, by law, it is the only authority empowered to approve and regulate sports federations in the country — including flag football.

Providing an update on the ongoing process, the NSC Director General said the commission is currently consulting all relevant stakeholders in the sport to ensure the successful formation of a unified national federation.

“The NSC appreciates the contributions of every group involved and is committed to building an inclusive governance structure that meets international standards and supports Nigeria’s sports development goals,” he said.

He added that the recognition process is still underway and no final decision has been reached.

The commission assured athletes, coaches, organisations, and international partners that the new Flag Football Federation will be rooted in transparency, inclusiveness, and global best practices, ensuring Nigeria is properly represented in future international events.

More details — including election timelines, membership criteria, and transitional arrangements — will be released soon.
