In a recent crackdown on unlicensed private security guards in Awka, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State has apprehended eight individuals. State Commandant Maku Olatunde revealed that the operation led to the recovery of four pump-action guns and 16 live cartridges from the suspects.

The arrests, made following a raid by NSCDC operatives in Awka, underscore the agency's commitment to regulating the activities of private security guards, especially amid current security challenges. Maku emphasized NSCDC's mandate to ensure only licensed and reputable private security companies operate in the state.

Among the arrested individuals were three suspects from RSS, apprehended at Kwata Junction Awka, and a member of G7 AVG security outfit, arrested at G7 Plaza St Joseph Road Awka. The remaining four suspects were providing security services to hotels in the area.

Maku stated that preliminary investigations revealed some suspects were impersonating the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), while others were hired by hotels despite the outfits not being licensed or registered. All suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will be charged to court for prosecution.

NSCDC reiterated its commitment to preventing the proliferation of illegal security outfits, reducing security breaches, and clamping down on any illegal operations in Anambra State. With this action, the agency aims to restore order in the private security sector and ensure the safety of all residents.
