The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has apprehended four suspects involved in illegal mining activities in Oyi Local Government Area. Commandant Maku Olatunde, in collaboration with the Federal Mines Officer, Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, led the operation aimed at curbing environmental degradation and economic sabotage.
The suspects, identified as Nnamani Chidubem, Ekemezie Ifeanyi, Okolie Patrick, and Onyedika Somtoo, were caught mining laterite without approval, using equipment including a truck loaded with laterite, heavy-duty batteries, a hydraulic jack, and fuel filters. Commandant Olatunde emphasized the crackdown signals an end to impunity in illegal mining, urging stakeholders to operate with valid licences and at approved sites.
