The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three suspects at an illegal oil refinery in Rivers State. This was revealed in a statement by the corps spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, on Monday in Abuja.
Afolabi explained that the illegal refinery was located at the Nembe/Odagwa Creek in Etche Local Government Area. The site featured a large dug-out reservoir, constructed and padded with tarpaulin, capable of containing 100,000 litres of illegally refined crude oil.
He mentioned that some suspects fled upon sighting the operatives, escaping through the creek. The apprehended suspects are currently assisting with the investigation and will be charged in court upon its completion.
Afolabi commended citizens for providing valuable information and urged them to continue aiding the corps with actionable intelligence. He reiterated the NSCDC's commitment to eradicating economic sabotage in the oil region and warned those involved in such illicit activities to cease or face legal consequences.
