The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has urged officers to prioritize their health and fitness to maintain peak performance on the job.

Dr. Odumosu made this call on Saturday after leading officers and men of the command on a 10-kilometre route march across Abuja.

According to a statement by the FCT Command spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, the march started from the command headquarters and took the officers through major routes, including Wuse Market, Wuse Zone 3, Wuye Bridge by NAFDAC, and Berger Junction, before returning to the base.

Speaking after the exercise, Dr. Odumosu said the march was aimed at improving endurance, building team spirit, and strengthening the sense of unity and discipline that defines security agencies worldwide.

“Today’s exercise aligns with our goal of repositioning the FCT Command for better service delivery,” he said. “Physical training and routine exercises like this prepare our officers to face emerging security challenges with strength and confidence. Readiness is not a one-time effort—it’s a continuous commitment to discipline and self-improvement.”

He added that the activity demonstrated that the command was “fit and ready to take on vandals and ensure they are flushed out of the FCT completely.”

The Commandant also praised the officers for their energy and enthusiasm during what he described as the first edition of the exercise.

Reaffirming his commitment to the Corps’ mandate, Dr. Odumosu said the command would continue working closely with other security agencies, local communities, and stakeholders to maintain peace and protect critical national assets within the FCT.

“We’ll keep collaborating with partners to ensure the safety and security of the capital territory,” he assured.

In a goodwill message, Deputy Commandant of Corps and Acting Director of Sports at the NSCDC National Headquarters, Oladipo Lawal, commended the initiative and encouraged the command to sustain it, noting that such activities boost fitness and improve overall performance.
