The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State has arrested a 39-year-old man, Chukwugozirim Christian, for impersonating a naval officer and engaging in fraudulent activities. The suspect, who hails from Nnobi in Idemili North Local Government Area, was apprehended at Kwata Junction in Awka during a routine patrol on Tuesday. His accomplices are currently on the run.
State NSCDC Commandant, Maku Olatunde, revealed that Christian was caught while impersonating military personnel, raising suspicion among operatives. Upon investigation and verification with the Naval Base in Onitsha, it was confirmed that Christian had no affiliation with the Nigerian Navy. A search of his residence uncovered various military gear, including a complete blue combat uniform, a lanyard, and a walkie-talkie.
Maku emphasized that the NSCDC remains committed to protecting the citizens of Anambra State from impostors and criminals. He stated that the arrest serves as proof of the Corps' determination to take decisive action against those using fake identities to perpetrate crime in the state.
