The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently address the ongoing minimum wage dispute and the pending issues with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to prevent another major crisis. This appeal was made in a communique issued at the end of NUJ's quarterly meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State.
NUJ President Chris Isiguzo highlighted that the approved N62,000 minimum wage is inadequate given Nigeria's current economic situation. He stressed the importance of the government considering joint labor recommendations to resolve the wage issue.

Isiguzo also urged the Federal Government to address the unresolved issues with ASUU to avoid another indefinite strike, emphasizing the detrimental effects such strikes have on students. Additionally, he warned security agents and politicians against further attacks on journalists and called for their protection, especially with upcoming elections in Edo and Ondo States.
The communique expressed concern over the country's persistent insecurity, rising cost of living, and the delay in production at the Dangote Refinery. It also condemned the vandalization of power installations and urged the Ministry of Power and the Transmission Company of Nigeria to restore electricity to affected states.
