A female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member named Melanie is reported trapped under a two-storey building that collapsed in the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The building caved in around 7 am on Saturday while some occupants were still in bed.

This incident follows a tragic school building collapse in Jos, Plateau State, which resulted in the death of over 22 people and injuries to over 100 others. Residents reported that cracks in the building were noticed early, prompting some to leave before the collapse.

Ella Onyeke, a resident, shared that some occupants left the building after discovering cracks. However, many tenants, who were still asleep, did not respond to warnings. Onyeke mentioned that early risers who saw the building tilting managed to escape and alerted others.

Emergency responders have successfully rescued two individuals from the rubble and are working to save a third person trapped in a flat. Social media videos show voices saying, “There are about three ladies stuck. They have extracted two, and they are trying to extract the third person.” The community is hoping for Melanie's safe rescue.
