Oborevwori Mourns Business Icon Emmanuel Ojei at 74

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned industrialist and philanthropist, Emmanuel Ojei, describing his passing as a huge loss to Delta State and Nigeria.

Ojei, popularly known as Nuel Ojei, died on Saturday night at the age of 74 in his hometown of Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.

In a statement released on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, the governor described the late businessman as a visionary entrepreneur and committed Deltan whose influence went far beyond the state.

According to Oborevwori, Ojei made remarkable contributions to business growth, job creation and philanthropy, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations.

The governor noted that the late industrialist began his business journey at Rutam Motors in 1973 before founding Nuel Ojei Holdings and Nuel Auto Distributors, companies that later became major players in Nigeria’s automotive industry.

Founded in 1981, Nuel Auto Distributors became the sole distributor of Mazda vehicles in Nigeria and later partnered with Mercedes-Benz for authorised vehicle servicing. Through Nuel Ojei Holdings, he built a strong indigenous conglomerate with interests spanning automotive, banking, construction and other sectors, creating employment for hundreds of Nigerians.

In recognition of his achievements, Delta State University awarded him an honorary Doctorate in Business Administration in 2003.

Oborevwori also described Ojei as a generous philanthropist, noting that the Nuel Ojei Foundation positively impacted many lives through education, healthcare and social support initiatives.

The governor extended his condolences to the Ojei family, the people of Issele-Uku and the wider business community, praying for strength and comfort for them in this time of grief.

“We pray that God grants the soul of Chief Emmanuel Ojei eternal rest,” he said.
